Feeding support for ages 0 months and up
Feeding your child shouldn’t feel like a daily battle.
Struggling to latch, gagging on solids, or a toddler who refuses almost everything? Our paediatrician, dietitian and speech & feeding therapist work together to find out why, and help you fix it.
Not sure? Talk to us. Tell us your child’s age and your biggest worry. We’ll point you to the right visit.
Does this sound familiar?
Feeding struggles are common, and they are not a sign you’re doing something wrong. Here is what parents tell us.
Newborn to 6 months
“He cries, arches and spits up after most feeds. Is this normal?”
“I worry that he is not gaining enough weight.”
Starting solids
“She gags or coughs on almost every new texture, and I’m scared to keep trying.”
Toddlers and beyond
“He only eats a handful of foods, and I worry he’s missing out on nutrition.”
“She doesn’t like chewing and sticks to only soft foods.”
“Mealtimes have become an hour of coaxing, bribing and screens.”
Any age
“The growth chart worries me, and no one has explained why.”
If you nodded to any of these, you’re in the right place. The first step is working out why it’s happening.
Three specialists, three different reasons to book
Each one looks at feeding from a different angle. Here’s when each visit makes the most sense.
Paediatrician
Start here when you need to rule out a medical cause.
- Weight gain has slowed, or growth is dropping on the growth chart.
- Frequent vomiting, reflux, constipation or tummy pain around feeds.
- You suspect a milk or food allergy: rashes, vomiting or reactions after new foods.
- Your baby was born early or has a medical condition, and feeding isn’t progressing as expected.
- You need advise about weaning diet and transitioning to solid food.
Paediatric Dietitian / Nutritionist
Book when the question is what, when and how much to feed.
- You’re unsure what, when or how much to feed, caloric intake and nutritional adequacy.
- Fussy eating is limiting variety and you’re worried about iron, protein or vitamins.
- A growth concern needs a practical meal plan, using foods your child will actually eat.
- Allergies or vegetarian and other dietary limits make meal planning tricky.
Speech – Language & Feeding Therapist
See them when the problem is how your child eats, not what.
- Gagging, coughing or choking, or a wet, gurgly voice during or after feeds.
- Trouble sucking and swallowing, chewing or moving food around the mouth.
- Strong reactions to textures: still on purées, or refusing lumps and finger foods.
- Feeds are slow and exhausting, or you’re wondering about tongue-tie and oral motor function.
⚠️ Go to the nearest emergency department if your child has swelling of the lips or face, difficulty breathing, or repeated severe vomiting after eating. Don’t wait for an appointment.

Combined Feeding Clinic
One visit, three specialists, one plan for your child.
Feeding problems may not have just one cause. A baby who gags may also have reflux, or a picky toddler may struggle with chewing. In the Combined Feeding Clinic, the paediatrician, dietitian and speech & feeding therapist assess your child together, so you leave with one joined-up plan instead of three sets of advice.
- One visit, not three. No running between clinics to piece the picture together.
- One plan everyone agrees on. Medical, nutrition and feeding-skill advice that fit together.
- Your questions answered in the room. Ask the whole team. No conflicting advice.
